Tips for researchers seeking to be more policy-relevant

May 9, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am

By nature, researchers and lawmakers face very different incentives, timeframes, constraints, and priorities. Researchers wanting to make a “real world” impact should understand the basics of policy deliberation and change, how policy makers interpret evidence, how to recognize windows of opportunity, and how the media and other intermediaries fit into this landscape. Join Jamie Davies O’Leary, Associate Director of Policy, to discuss how to write for and engage a policy audience, options for engaging as a university-employee, how to frame your argument in terms they (and their constituents) care about, and more.

Jamie has worked in education policy and advocacy for over a decade, and ran for public office in 2016. Jamie leads Crane Center policy-related efforts and wants more great research getting into the hands of anyone making decisions, or influencing those who do.
